AnueNue - The Brand New 100 Year Old Moonbird?

Hey folks, this week I have the pleasure of comparing the modern classic AnueNue Moonbird UT200 Tenor to the updated UT-330 model which has an artificially aged (torrefied) Spruce top. Given that the Torrefied wood top adds an extra 20% to the price of the instrument, do you think it's a worthy upgrade? I personally prefered the sound of the UT-330 after playing them back to back, sometimes dif...

I don't consider the Baritone Uke to be an accompaniment instrument at all. Certainly not any more than a Tenor, Concert, or Soprano uke is an accompaniment instrument. The Baritone has quickly become my main instrument of choice for my everyday practice and playing. I tried the guitar as my first instrument but found it too much for me to handle as a beginner. The Tenor has too small of a nut width to accomodate my thick fingers and while I have played and can play a Tenor it isn't at all comfortable for me to play. With the Baritone, I can move freely about on the fingerboard without cramped spacing and I have full range of motion without having tense, tight fingers. The Baritone offers EVERYTHING a Tenor, Concert, and Soprano uke does but at a deeper octave range along with more volume. I think the reason there are a lot of Baritone uke players out there with more and more of them everyday is because it is an amazing instrument that sounds and plays a lot like a small guitar. Not everyone wants their ukes to sound like ukes.

Every Revelator is a unikate, and a wounderfull peace of handcraft made and a wonder of sound. I went one year bevor to Andreas, from „gute Ukulele“, to look after 3 different Uke‘s. After the first tone of the revelator I couldn't let go of the instrument. Yes, it’s money, but every penny worse! I‘m so happy, to have one of this marvelous instruments. Maybe … next year… 😊

Sounds great when you play it and they look amazing. While, I love the wood quality, the nut size and lack of fret dots, take it out of consideration for me. All personal preference of course. I did have quality control issues with my brand new $800 Kala last year, but I’m guessing these US made models are inspected much closer and that won’t be an issue. Thanks

Beautiful ukulele's from Flight (Yet again!) and your description and playing of each certainly showed off the true beauty and clarity of each remarkable instrument - and I can see the reason you played an entire night on the one ukulele when you first received it. I said to you when I met you at the Great British Ukulele Festival 2024 that I was looking for the Flight Nighthawk - but after seeing and hearing the Flight Comet - I want one!! The mango suits me all over the place. I'd buy it (and love it) and let you buy it back if you had regrets. I think what is happening with the mango is that you have said all you can say with it. Do you think it is holding you back at this point in your life? You sound like the way you would like to express yourself is quite different than you wanted to when you ordered the mango. The beautiful, safe appearance of the mango isn't you anymore either. You are ready to hold something up in front of you that is much more alive. You need livelier response in an instrument as well, to go where your increased emotional energy wants to take it.

Love your thoughtful comment. What happened since this video is Kanile'a reached out to me and told me to keep the mango uke. They have incredibly built me a left handed Ilikai and gifted it to me. I think to be honest I've been getting rid of a lot of things from my old life the last 2 years but there are a few things I've got rid of impulsively that I regretted after a bit of time passed.

Note that the pickup on the Flight Voyager tenor changed in 2022 from a Passive pickup to an Active pickup (Passive Artec "PP404U" to a Double C1U Active pickup). Note also that the controls for the pickup are mounted under the edge of the soundhole so no holes were needed in the shoulder of the instrument body for external controls. Be aware that some older new stock & used Voyagers (2020 to mid-2022) may have the passive pickup. Be sure to confirm you are purchasing the instrument with the pickup you want. Just remember "A" is for "Active" pickup in the newer tenor Flight Voyager model "EQ-A". Lastly, the newer Voyager fretboard is rosewood, not the ebony composite on the older model.

The Scepter carried me away to a peaceful place. Really. I am watching a lot of ukulele videos. It seems to me, that in the lower end models, the sound sort of bounces off the wood. It sounds better as the quality of wood gets better. But I think I am hearing the sound commingle with the wood after a point, like that is when they become especially fine instruments. Resonance? I am listening to the sound of the strumming as well. I noticed the sound of the strumming on the KoAlohas I was hearing. More delicate and "uke-like"? I am trying to avoid the "Mando chop" sound. I hope to get back to England this autumn. I would love to visit your shop. I would want a baritone.

Just came across that video. 8 strings baritone ukuleles are quite rare, and it seems really hard to find one with that level of finishing. I just bought a Baton Rouge V2-B8 and I absolutely love the sound, but I really miss the bevel of my Flight Victoria tenor and its finishing, aspect and overall feeling. I'm not an expert, but the pineapple seemed to be the better of the 2. The sound was more all-around and not as tinkerly as the guitar shaped one. The pineapple had the slightly more " ukulele " sound. There's not much in it, and at the end of the day, though, I would buy the pinapple just on its sound. All of the pineapples I have seen seem to be supranos ( 21 " ). A tenor would be welcome. 🙂

As a beginning ukelele player who has played guitar over 50 years I’m very curious why you did not restring your ukelele for left-handed playing? Does playing it strumming “backwards” make it any more difficult for your brain to process chord charts? That may seem like a silly question but I would guess that even fingering the chords may use different fingers (although same string and fret positions) to accomplish what you do….
